Judge and Jury

The United States system of justice requires that judges and juries render decisions concerning our fellow citizens. Though imperfect, this method has operated satisfactorily for the entire history of the country. While legal judgment is necessary, too often we personally make rash or inappropriate judgments of others. Jesus uses a metaphor in today’s Gospel, challenging us to look at ourselves and what we do, before we judge a brother or sister.

You know this. So do I. You’ve heard it, and I’ve preached it, countless times. But, of course, knowing or preaching isn’t the same as doing. Today you and I can do something about not being so judgmental.

Prayer: Christ Jesus, help me to be more compassionate toward others. And patient, too.
