Gospel Readings and Family Question for March

Second Sunday of Lent
March 4: Luke 9: 28b – 36 (Jesus is transfigured)

  • When have I/we experienced wondrous things?
  • Where do you go to find a sacred meeting place/time with God?
  • What have you/we felt closest to God’s glory?
  • What are some experiences we have each day that show us God’s glory?
  • What are some ways we can deepen our appreciation and reverence for God?
  • The voice instructed the apostles to listen to Jesus. Where do we go to listen to Jesus in our lives?
  • Do I listen to what God is telling me? How does God talk to me?
  • Do I see God’s plan for me even when things seem mixed up?
  • Moses and Elijah spoke with Jesus about what he was to do. Who inspires you to be your best?

Third Sunday of Lent
March 11: Luke 4: 24-30 (The Time to Change is Now)

  • Have I taken time to think about my life to see what needs changing?
  • Jesus asks you to change your life. What needs changing? What will you do?
  • Name on injustice that you see in your neighborhood, country, our world? What could you do/ our family do to reform it?

Fourth Sunday of Lent
March 18: Luke 15:  1-3, 11-32   (Parable of the Forgiving Father)

  • How does God show his love for you? What do your family, your friends do to show their love for you?
  • Who needs to have a message of forgiveness from me this week?
  • When have you been like the prodigal son, the elder brother, the forgiving father?
  • The parable really doesn’t end. What do you think happened after the elder son heard the father’s words?
  • In Jesus’ culture to be reconciled with someone, you ate together. What do you do/what do we do when we want to be reconciled? With whom do you/we need to be reconciled? What will you/we do this week?

Fifth Sunday of Lent
March 25: John 8: 1-11 (Jesus doesn’t judge)

  • When are some times people have forgiven me/us?
  • Have there been times I/we have passed judgment on others? Why?
  • How do we feel when others judge us?
  • What’s the hardest thing to forgive in someone?
  • When you’re aware of your faults and mistakes, how does that make you feel?  Then, what do you do?
  • What has God done for me/us in the past? What new thing is God doing for me/us right now?

Prayer for Mothers

Mary, Mother of Jesus, teach me to be obedient to God’s will in all that I think, and do, and say. Help me to guide my children in the way that you guided Jesus so that they will grow in faith and love.

 Prayer for Fathers

Blessed St. Joseph, protector of Our Lady and Jesus, teach me to listen to the will of God, to put the good of my family above my own interests, and to be patient and loving with everyone I meet and in all that I do.
